A reflection on my midterm presentation.For thousands of year humans have lived their lives coherently with nature as it provides us shelter, food and resources, as time passed our experiences, culture and nature has been the root of redefining human biological evolution. But In more present times because of technological advancements humans have created our own society on earth, changing its landscape and surrounding, turning it into a more industrialized urban community because of this humans spend more time inside buildings and cars, the lack of biophilc activities and time spent in nature is strengthening the disconnect of humans from nature. This sudden shift in lifestyle is causing humans to have psychological and physical problems; depression, feeling fatigue, isolation, tension and many more. Biophilic deign allows me to Bring elements of the natural world into modern society.Today I presented my collection of furniture I think best represents my capstone. This collection consist of 3 pieces a lounge chair, ottoman, and side table.
I think the presentation of my collection went pretty well, The ideas I presented were not disliked but in terms of the reference to biophilic design most people thought my designs were too "refined" and also that my forms looked too manipulated, if I am trying to bring the outside in I should try to use more natural forms. I am very happy that this first collection I presented went pretty well. My design started off very sculptural which clearly/ literally is a representation of the natural environment now turning into something that is too rational. I am getting closer but this week I will be doing more sketches and changes to get to something that embodies both.
